  • Abstract:
    Managing intragroup conflicts is essential in construction projects to mitigate their negative effects while retaining positive effects. Stakeholder engagement plays a significant role in conflict management and existing studies have overlooked the stakeholder salience when analysing its influence on managing conflicts in construction projects. Thus, this study investigates the nature of intragroup conflicts and the salient stakeholders in managing them. The data was collected from a questionnaire survey of 103 project stakeholders in the Australian construction industry. The findings revealed that despite intragroup conflicts are not prevalent, certain causes such as different opinions between stakeholders, issues with designs and schemes, personality clashes, and issues created by other stakeholders still contribute to intragroup conflicts in construction projects. It further identified that the client, architect, project manager, engineers and main contractor as the stakeholders with the highest salience values in both causing and managing conflicts. These findings will be useful for construction project stakeholders to proactively identify potential conflicts and salient stakeholders connected with conflicts and assist them in making well-informed decisions in conflict management.
