- Abstract:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has potential in revolutionising the performance of the construction industry. However current understanding, readiness, and awareness by South Australian construction practitioners is at the nascent stage. Therefore, this paper aims to examine the current awareness and potential applications of AI and assess the readiness of people and AI technology in the current industry. Data was collected from 34 construction professionals using a survey, with descriptive statistics and measures of central tendencies employed for the data analysis. The findings showed that although there was a higher general level of awareness of AI within the SA AEC industries, this was predominantly at the surface level only as there was a limited understanding of specific AI technologies or their applications. However, knowledge of current usage or available technology was limited with emphasis more on the potential of AI rather than actual technology which was currently under development. The findings of this study can help inform the construction practitioners on the adoption and usage of AI techniques by revealing the opportunities for improving its readiness and awareness.
