  • Abstract:
This study explored strategies to overcome barriers to gender inclusiveness in addressing manpower shortages in the Nigerian construction industry. The objectives of the study were to identify key strategies to overcome barriers to gender inclusiveness and to assess the benefits of gender inclusiveness in the construction industry, with a view to creating a more equitable and diverse workforce that enhances both social and economic outcomes for the industry. A survey questionnaire administered to 287 women professionals in the study area provided the data used for the study. Data obtained were analyzed using mean item score, the Mann-Whitney U test and the Kruskal-Wallis test (H). The top four strategies to overcome barriers to gender inclusiveness in addressing manpower shortages in the construction industry are creating supportive work environments, promoting work-life balance programs, combating gender bias and stereotypes, and establishing mentorship programs. Key benefits of integrating gender inclusiveness in addressing manpower shortages in the industry include reducing the skills gap, increasing productivity and performance, sustaining the workforce, and enhancing problem-solving abilities. By implementing the identified strategies, the industry can create a more inclusive environment that attracts and retains talent from diverse backgrounds, thereby mitigating perennial manpower shortages.
