Election to the ARCOM Committee

Twenty of the 21 incumbent committee members have been re-elected to the ARCOM Committee following the ARCOM AGM held at the University of West of England (UWE) in Bristol on Tuesday 6 September 2011. Dr. Sam Wamuziri from Edinburgh Napier University stepped down after serving four years on the committee. Professor Charles Egbu thanked Sam for his efforts and service to ARCOM and the committee.

Announcement of the ARCOM Travel Grant Scheme

As a result of ARCOM's strong financial position, the committee has decided to set up an ARCOM Travel Grant Scheme (TGS) to further support doctoral and early-career researchers to attend ARCOM conferences and workshops. The TGS will also be bolstered initially by sponsorship provided by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). Details about the TGS, including rules and procedures for applications, will soon be launched.

Launch of the ARCOM Road Show on Sustainability and Low Carbon Construction

In an effort to diversify the format of the successful doctoral workshops, ARCOM announces the launch and resurrection of the ARCOM Road Show. The Road Show seeks to bring together researchers, academics, practitioners and policy makers to discuss and debate the contemporary theme of "Sustainability and Low Carbon Construction". Sponsorship for the Road Show has been secured with the CIOB, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and Constructing Excellence South West. The first in this series will take place on Thursday 1 December 2011 in Leeds Metropolitan University. Please email Professor Chris Gorse for more information.

ARCOM Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) in Edinburgh on Friday 3 February 2012

ARCOM members are invited to an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to vote on proposed changes to the ARCOM constitution. The current constitution was last amended in 2006 as a result of a growth in activities, which in turn required an expansion of the committee. A number of further changes have been proposed to sharpen the election process. These include moving towards an online voting system, and protecting executive officers from the general vote for up to two years. Please email Dr. Simon Smith or Dr. Paul W Chan if you are intending to attend this EGM.
