  • Abstract:
The requirements to improve facility, the influence of health policies, changes in government priorities and ever tightening budgets are driving facilities managers to question what a good health estate looks like. It is crucial to develop a health estates performance model that serves as a reference for healthcare organisations to work towards its achievement. This research provides a list of parameters and performance metrics that can form the baseline for the approach to developing the model. The asset and facilities management frameworks for nine international healthcare organisations are reviewed reflecting varied contexts to identify the parameters employed to assess facility performance, followed by comparison with the theoretical models for measuring the performance of the FM. The findings from the research shows that each organisation employs a list of metrics that are more aligned and tailored to their contextual priorities and policies. Although there are some similarities between them, the research reveals that there are inconsistencies and some gaps that are not covered by the theoretical FM models. The next step of the research seeks to explore the rationale for this through a pan EU survey and focus groups.
