- Abstract:
In 1995, 17 schools with authorized outreach trainers on their faculties were surveyed to ascertain the number of students being issued OSHA cards, and to determine how safety education was delivered within their curriculums. These same 17 schools were re-contacted for the current study to determine the changes that have occurred in the last 10 years with respect to (1) OSHA card issuance, (2) the effect safety training and the OSHA cards have on job opportunities for graduates, (3) the status of authorized trainers on faculty, and (4) the status of safety instructional methods and content at the university level. It was found that the number of construction students receiving the 30 Hour cards has increased, their effect on job opportunities is positive, programs continue to have authorized outreach trainers on their faculty, and there are more dedicated courses for construction safety instruction now than 10 years ago.
