    Taiwan's prosperous economy in the past decades brought about a transportation bottleneck, which caused an urgent demand on an efficient and comfortable transportation system. After careful evaluation and comparison with other transportation means, the Taiwanese government selected High Speed Rail (HSR) to meet the need. The Taiwan High Speed Rail project is a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) contract with 13.4 billion US dollars. Starting with reasons for the need of HSR, reasons for adopting BOT, details of the Taiwan HSR project, and the feasibility analysis of the Taiwan HSR project will all be presented in this paper. The feasibility analysis comprises the comparisons of different transportation means, the financial feasibility analysis, and the benefits from HSR. Finally, conclusions of this paper will be drawn
