  • Abstract:
The infrastructure sector in Southeast Asia has developed from a traditional public domain to an open market where the private sector is given access to participate in the areas of investments and financing. The emerging markets in the region which were the most successful in attracting private investment are Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand, and the sectors where most private participation occurred were energy, telecommunications, transport and water & sanitation. In this paper, the dynamics of private financing environment are analysed, and the recent trends employed by project developers and lending institutions in the financing of projects are described. The paper reports the results of a survey of companies belonging to two categories that are the major participants in private infrastructure investments, namely, Financing Institutions and Project Developers/Sponsors.
