  • Abstract:
Compaction quality (CQ) is one key index of asphalt pavement construction control. Compared with traditional control methods for asphalt pavement, intelligent compaction (IC) is an effective and new technology to control CQ in real time. This research developed an intelligent control system of asphalt pavement CQ. The rolling uniformity index (RUI) and rolling standard index (RSI) are proposed to control CQ. The applicability of the two indexes was evaluated by the analysis of the correlation between the indexes and compactness and smoothness from field measurements. In addition, an advanced method of rolling color-coded map (RCM) drawing was put forward to reduce the workload for the IC data processing. The results showed that the presented system successfully can control the CQ of asphalt pavement construction in real time, and the IC data processing capacity can be reduced obviously by the newly drawn RCM. Moreover, smoothness can be reflected better by the RUI, whereas the compactness was evaluated effectively by the RSI. The research into CQ asphalt pavement and the evaluation index greatly promoted the development of IC technology.
