  • Abstract:

There are many factors in green building delivery which drive or hinder the success of such projects and many of these factors are directly or indirectly related with innovation. In this study, some of the success factors with direct relation to innovation in green buildings are extracted from project delivery research. These factors include innovative financing methods, sequential design process, constructability of innovative designs, level of creativity and innovation, innovative technological approaches, Availability and deployment of innovative technologies and material, Company employees’ resistance to change from conventional to green practices, etc. This study relates these innovation factors with success of green building projects and provides an assessment of the effect of these factors on success. Findings of three case studies of green building projects are discussed pertaining to these innovation factors. This study ascertains the level of innovation building industry requires for sustainable development, and provides an account of innovation factors for green building project delivery. Moreover, the study help inform whether building industry require radical innovation or incremental innovation in order to meet the challenges set by environmental crisis.
